speedo not working!

can anyone help me please? speedo on my 96 jap WRX is not working on acceleration: it falls to nothing with my foot down and wobbles around the rest of the time well below the correct speed, seems to work ok when Im cruisin. :2ponder:
think must be a loose connection, my mate who sold me the car checked its plugged into dash ok, but where does the other end connect? could a VERY ameteur mechanic such as myself find the other end and plug it in properly and how? any ideas would be greatly appreciated, thanks

As it's a pre MY97 it will be a cable driven speedo.
one end goes to the back of the speedo and the other to the side of the gearbox (just behind the turbo).
I asume as it's an Import there is a speedo convertor fitted. (does the speedo read in MPH? Is the car limited to 112MPH?)
The convertor usually goes ion the gearbox end of the speedo cable.

I maybe that the cable is not clipped in properly to the convertor or gearbox and when you floor it pulls out.

cheers mate, would it be simple to look at or do i need to remove parts to get at it? Its cetrainly not limited to 112mph and does read mph. maybe a picture of where this cable goes or something? thanks

Don't have any pics.
If you look down past the turbo with a torch you should be able to see it ging into the side of the gearbox. It actually points down the side of the box, end towards the floor.

If you coming to the meet on Sunday I'll take a look (just remind me!) :D

OK it was the speedo converter btw, got a new one coming soon but am restricted to 112mph in the meantime (not a prob cos im not driving her any more!)
