View Full Version : is my car chipped?
hi its a 93 import wrx saloon,i have an apexi avc-r fitted and was playin with boost/duty settings today, and had it running between 15-20 psi while i was setting it up to run a steady 11-12psi,but had no boost/ign cut at all?and injector readout on avcr said it used 54% of injectors capability(i assume thats what it means) plus no det?
If it's got an AVC-R it may well have a Fuel Cut defender wired into the ECU.
How do you know you were getting no DET !!!!!??????
54% IDC sounds quite low. What revs was this at ??
Mine runs 95% at 1.3bar/6800rpm on 440cc injectors. A 93WRX only has 380cc.
I didn't know the AVCR could read injector duty..but it's a while since I looked at a manual for one.
Yeah they can read inj duty but it limits other features IIRC .
Steve
thats it,can monitor 2 at a time so its set to do inj,and boost,it was the high point it recorded as i opened it up in 1,2 and 3rd,prob to around 4-4.5k?
not sure whats been done to be honest as am no expeert,so jjust playin with it a bit but stayin sensible with boost as dont wanna kill it,not sure if its ahd a remap,as its a LOT quicker than my last standard wrx was which was also 93k?
Open up the ECU and see if there's a chip in there.
My ebay advert will show you what to look for http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=002&item=120020443605&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESO%3AIT&rd=1
thanks mate1
ill take a look, only one thing is where is it?ive heard ns footwell but where?lol,
passenger footwell under the alluminium footplate
cool ill have a look soon mate, and let you know what i find...
so if its got a blank for a chip then it isnt, and if the resistor is intact
Yep, blank space with 2 rows of 14 holes filled with solder, and the J1 brown resistor should be intact.
You may find an Fuel Cut defender Box next to the ECU, this will be wired into the ECU Map sensor input (can't remember the pin No. at th emoment, but can let you know if required).
ok ill have a look, and let you know in about an hour, will the avcr have bypassed the fcd?
No AVC-R doesn't have an FCD
The AVCR should use it's own map sensor (probably under the bonnet on the drivers side strut) and boost control solenoid.
The standard ECU map sensor and boost control solenoid may still be connected to the ECU but are redundant.
I'll ping this to Simon aka Jolly Green Monster, he will confirm as he runs one in his.
cheers mate, will wait to hearand let you know what i find in the ecu, cheers, neil.

Yep.. the original need to be connect to the ecu still to stop the CEL..
Think the fuel cut is 1bar.. so you are probably just slightly below it at 11~12psi
but the other day it ran up to 20psi with no cut,was not running that figure as a permanent setting just fiddling with my avcr duty settings, but no cut even at 20psi?
which means you must have an FCD in there somewhere...
but would that not have cut the fuel off @20psi? as a safety measure?

not with a fcd no.. depending on what it is set up to.. it will probably be fitted behind the ecu kick plate.. horrible things fcd..
As simon say's, an FCD does what it says on the tin. It removes the fuel cut limit, thus enabling greater boost to be run then that mapped into the ECU.
As you car has an apexi AVC-R (assuming you didn't fit this), I assume it also has an FCD.
Otherwise there is little point fitting the AVC-R, as it will only allow you to increase boost from 0.8 to 1.0bar before breaching the standard fuel-cut limit.
With an FCD fitted and depending on it's type and settings, you can run as much boost as the turbo will allow, but fuel/ignition will not be adjusted to compensate.
gotcha!
thanks for explaining it for me1
so all it does is bypass the boost cut, thus it will go better but eventually det and melt,ok ill leave it alone at around 12psi until i get the remap done!
