View Full Version : jerky running prob??
hi,its hard to explain but it feels on very light throttle like its sort of spluttering and holding back allmost choking, then with a bit more throttle it clears and will boost up fine again?
also today it felt a bit down on power then cleared, then i went out again and it went down, then cleared, and when i pulled up a roundabout it hunted, then i drove round the corner and was ok again???
the car has been decatted and appears to have no lambda sensor, altho it has been running fine,i thought maybe tps,or plugs?any thoughts greatfully recieved, neil.

it sounds like to me that your fuel pump may be on its way out do you know if it has been replaced at all in the cars life
matt
i have no rec't for it so id say not,ive only had it a week and a 1/2,are they dear?
Not expensive if YOU fit it,as its a tank out job i believe, so the labour will be a bit if you go to a garage...walbro is around £90 or so iirc
oh lucky me!!!lol,so its not one you can access from a platein the boot then?grrr

yes it is there is a plat on the boot on the drivers side at the back of the seat to make it easyer just take the back seat out its only 4 bolts lol its really is that easy :)
matt
6 screws on the plate
4 or 6 bolts and 3 pipes and it will lift out with a little bit of a twist :)
Then unplug the pump and remove the pipe clip.
Make sure you use the new rubber pump seat as the std one is too big.
Definatly a DIY job.
Wallbro's can be had for about £80 :D
Not sure that is the problem though.
Could be down to the Lambda. Is it not fitted at all?
Not in the headers?
nope,no lambda, just 2 bolts blanking it off,i also removed the cover plates for the vents, could it be damp in the maf maybe?
thanks for the replys re;the pump also guys!!!
Was told its a tank out job when my brother had one fitted a few years back by P.t.s. in Luton:nono: (had a K reg import)
Are you running an induction kit?
If so a wet/damp filter could cause the same sort of feeling, though I used to get the oposite after a rain storm with HKS induction filter and covers removed.
I think light throttle was OK but any heavy use used to suck the water off the filter and through the MAF
yes it runs an hks green mushroom style filter, have put the covers back on,and done an ecu reset, also checked all conections, all seems to be ok,still a bit rough but was still cold, and always been a bit crappy when cold, will give it a run a bit later let it relearn its settings etc, then see how it does, good job i put the covers on when i did it just binned it down, lol!!!
Your Lambda probe isn''t in the downpipe.
Pre97 cars had it in the manifold before the up pipe going to the turbo! :)
you are a legend!!
i did not even know that existed hidden down there, and of course the connector is directly under the bonnet vent that i removed the rain cover to,when i (eventually)got the plug apart it had some green round one of the terminals,so ran it for a few mins without it,and now there is only very slight hesitation when bliiping the throttle whereas before it just used to virtually die, until it picked up,so i think you have stumbled on the cause,ie water rot and no connection,so will buy some wd tomorrow and see if it sorts it ,fingers crossed eh?

Not all... I think only v.early cars had it in the header. My 94UK had it in the downpipe, but my 93WRX had it in the header.
yep mines in the header os,wire runs up the cam cover and plugs next to the air filter,is a 93 wrx,so could explain it.
:thumb: Hope it's all sorted now then :)
Scott,
You may be right.
Most ao the cars I have seen/worked on are MY93/4 imports, though I thought Maffa's was down there (MY95 UK)
I will look into it a little further just for my own interest :)
hopefully so,cheers all for your helpfull replys and if it comes back will repost to pick your brains,:notworthy lol
