Evening all,

Have a got a 98uk with the well known (prodrive) speedline wheels (twin spoke) that were part of the optional extras list and the "fantastic" 2 pots.

My problem is that I have a 'sticky' piston where one of the rubber boots has split and its been winding me up for a while now.

My problem is that having recently bought my first house, cash is a bit hard to come by. I have done alot of reading on past posts on these wheels looking for options and tbh, I would rather keep the wheels as I love the look of them. I did notice on a couple of posts however that there may be brakes that will fit under these apart from the 2 pots.

Has anybody found, or even used these brakes mentioned (no names were ever given) that will go under the speedlines? Or any other upgrades that may be worthwhile doing without the loss of my wheels?

Failing that.....anybody got some wheels and brakes they want to sell

Thanks for any help.

Rich

 I sort of gathered ;)

****** just sold my 17" WRX wheels

I'm not sure on the brakes but it might be worth an Email to Ian @ Godspeed. His "Godspeed" 4 pots might fit.
Other option is to source some more 2 pot calipers and recondition them and add some better discs and pads :)

I don't think the 4-pots fit behind those Speedlines. You may need some spacers.

Scott,
Are you talking about "Godspeed" 4 pots or "Subaru" 4 pots? :)

Subaru ones.
I don't think there is clearance behind the old MY97/98 Prodrive twinspoke speedline, hence why they changed to PD7 and ST2 style alloys in 99/00,

Scott...That is exactly my dilemma... I just don't want to (or can afford to) change wheels and brakes. I might be trying my wheels on my friends my99 soon just to check tho...would be quite gutted otherwise as I got rid of my 4 pots from my last scoob about a year ago....From what I've looked at my wheels do seem very very slightly different to some pics I have seen of the non 4 pot clearers...

I will get dimensions soon tho...

Scott,
Hence why I said "Godspeed" 4 pots :p
Godspeed do a 4 pot kit using jag/princess calipers. They might clear the wheels. Would be worth an email to see :)

Subaru did do a wheel in the same style you have that does fit over 4 pots (was an option on the MY98 Forester I think), but the ofset is different and they were anthracite. They are very rare though :(
If yours are the Impreza ofset ones then the will not fit over Subaru 4 pots unless you run spacers!

I know its been awhile since I posted on this thread but I had a chat with Ian at Godspeed today.

He advised that his 4 pots (308mm) do in fact fit behind my wheels as his design sits the disc and caliper back from the wheel. However, one of these kits will be £950.

The alternative was to run a 5mm spacer behind my wheels in order to clear the subaru 4 pots. Which leaves me with a difficult decision.

Do I..

a) Run some good quality 5mm spacers (if anyone has any recommendations) behind my wheels and run Subaru 4 pots, or,
b) Retain or buy some more 2 pots (cheap) that won't seize up, or,
c) Sell something in the flat without Sarah noticing and buy the godspeeds!!

Option 'a' is proving to be very tempting at present but I am a little concerned over the spacer idea as you hear some dodgy stories. (Does anybody you know run spacers or do you?) 'b' is also tempting as its cheap...

What I was wondering however, is there a way that the existing 2 pots could be used in a 'big' brake conversion by the use of plates and with bigger discs or would this be a waste of time??

Many thanks for your comments so far...

Oh forgot to add, If I go down the option 'a' route does anybody have some 4 pots going??

Cheers

I thought I'd add, I have seen someone selling the scoobysport brembo 300mm brake kit http://bbs.scoobynet.com/brembo-brake-kit-t547819.html . Would this be similar to the godpeed brembo kit, or would the caliper sit in a different position as in the same offset as the original calipers???

Many thanks

I have a piar of 6mm (I think) spacers if you want to borrow them to try :)
See how much wheel stud is left.

I wouldn't personally buy an old Scoobysport Brembo kit, unless they were really cheap or I knew beforehand that I could source suitable discs ;)
I think they used an AP disc on the later spec kits but can't be sure.

i had (and still have somewhere) the same wheels as you.
i put a big (AP style) 330mm brake kit on, only to find they didnt fit.

i had to run 3mm spacers, which i did for about a year. no problems.

then i changed the wheels.

i was never really that happy with them being spaced, but it/they never caused any problems.

MarkUs (now canida) used to run some STUUUUUUUUUUPID spacers on his wagon coz he had porcshe brakes. something like 10-12mm. so long infact that he had to get longer wheel studs !!!

personally, now having experience of subaru 4pots (&2pots orginally), i'd buy an aftermarket kit. although 4pots are good, they arent a patch on my crappy AP rip-offs (although some of this might be the pads - EBC Greens). the also pedal has no feel in contrast to a good big brake setup - its just DEAD.

but that is a double expense, as you'd have to buy new wheels as well (or run spacers).

Thanks for the responses,

For now I have decided to just replace my 2's as a temporary measure whilst I save up (or sell something). I really do like the style of wheel and am extremely tempted by the godspeed 4's, so I have something to aim for now!!!

Thanks again for all your input.

i've got the same wheels as you and just fitted 4 pots to my 98, the calipers did rub with 5mm spacers so i ended up getting 10mm spacers with longer studs, they cost £75, but if your gonna stick with the 2 pots your welcome to my old ones, i was only going to throw them.
