Hello all
30K service is right round the corner, so I thought I'd have a chat with our favourite member of LGW Subaru staff Mr Hollamby.
He's advised I'll need new discs and pads, as they normally change them on the 04 WRX's at 22K-25K miles! I've done well to get 30K out of mine, but they fade very very very badly now.
So... Subaru as part of the 30K service can do me a set of standard discs and pads for around £230 fitted (not bad I thought) but could I get something a little better for similar money?
ScoobyWorld are doing Black Diamond discs with matching pads for £230, but how good are they?
I've got fed up with searching Google and Scoobynet, so any advice?
Budget... no more then £300 and I want a set of Goodridge hoses for that money too :)
J.
PS. Scott... if you still have your CompBrake kit, do you want to do a deal?
Compbrake kit sold. Sorry...
I have a good contact for EBC turbo Groove disks via an Ebay back door.
He works out about the same as www.brakes4u.co.uk, but approx less the VAT & Delivery.
For Turbo Grooved EBC for yours is £205 per pair, so he'll probably quote around £170.
If you don't want Turbo Grooved EBC, then EBC do a standard disks which is approx 40% cheaper then the drilled/grooved.
The cheapest place for Braided Goodridge is either www.rallydesign.co.uk or from http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GOODRIDGE-BRAKE-LINE-KIT-SUBARU-IMPREZA-TURBO-2001_W0QQitemZ290026714858QQihZ019QQcategoryZ23013 QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Rally design look cheaper but once they add VAT and £8.50 postage it works out about a quid or so more then the ebay link.
For Pads I'd suggest Ferodo DS2500 from Alyn at www.asperformance.com @ £106+vat. But if you contact him direct via Snet he will probably do a cheaper deal. His username is 'stockcar'.
If you want to go cheap then www.camskill.co.uk will do :
Standard disks and pads for £122 all inc.
Drilled Disks and DS2500's for £289 all inc.
I would call Alyn and see what he recommends. He'll sort a good price to do the whole set up to suit what you need ;)
Can't go wrong with DS2500 pads though :D
Not a fan of Blackdimond after a mate killed a set in short order (on the road!)
I have reservations about EBC also but lots of people are very happy with them. I was put off by the old compound Red stuff pads eating discs.
That was a few years ago and I hear the new compound is quite good.

Thanks for the replies. I've had a long chat with Alyn (very knowledgeable guy) at ASP, and decided to go with...
a) 295mm 'non-branded' vented 8 groove discs (Alyn says these are discs normally branded by a top name and retail at £200 a pair, but he's not allowed to tell me what the brand is. Could be EBC, Tar-Ox or maybe DBA?) I don't care as I've got them for £135 the pair!
b) Ferodo DS2500
c) Full set of Goodridge hoses
Whole lot for a little over £300 delivered. Hope I notice a difference! ;)
J.
Cool, he's a good man is Alyn...
