Hi All
Got a problem with overboost on my Scoob think it may possibly be linked to the de cat and rear silencer upgrade, but it may have spiked before I fitted them so I can't be sure. What can I do to rectify this?
I had remapping mentioned to me earlier today, what are the finer details of this and what does it roughly cost? + can it be done to my standard 94 wrx import ecu, also can it be remapped to accept unleaded 95ron.
and is there any other options than remap?
thanks for your time.

can be set up with a Dawes to stabilise the boost, or a restrictor size change.
The standard ecu cannot be remapped but you can add a chip to it which can be mapped but going for a custom map is nearly as expensive as an after market ecu. A one fits all map chip is unlikely though to solve the boost spiking.
A PowerFC fitting and mapping is £750.. I know as I supply and fit and map them ;)
It can be remapped for normal unleaded or in fact any fuel you have in the tank at the time on mapping, but you will lose power on 95ron fuel.
But I could also supply and fit a dawes and check the car on detcans and the fuelling etc.. dawes is a manual boost controller.
Thanks
Simon
Brad,
Spiking is usually caused by a missing restrictor in the boost control circuit or pipework missung when an induction kit gets fitted..
If you can get to me at work one afternoon/evening I'll have a look for you.
I'm guessing it was Vince that mentioned the remap ;) he know's what I can offer (and also Simon with the PFC come to think of it).
I have a chip at work too, but we will try the restrictor check first.
They don't normally spike/overboost unless someones been messing before, which quite often happend before they reach the UK.

downpipe does sometimes cause it though.. not a twin dump one is it?

No the downpipe is standard and blowing, it is the centre section which has been decated.

perhaps it is the blow that is not helping..
I probably have a couple of restrictors laying about..
I'll try and remember to look and pass onto Scott and then he can check and fit if needed..
Or come up at a lunchtime and we can both pull it apart (I mean fix it)
Simon ;)

cool
Good to see you tonight Brad. Hopefully we have isolated the problem.
From your description this evening, it didn't sound like Boost Spike, but just a plain old miss-fire.
For those that are interested :
Having pulled a coil pack out I found it to be cracked quite bad under the rubber boot. The best bet is to get a new set of coil packs (unfortunatley about £200 for a set).
This is quite a common problem on the Pre96 cars.
Brad,
What I forgot to say is, you can get them from API.
I think API do them cheaper then Subaru.

Thanks again Scott for your time, its really appreciated.
My mistake on the boost spike, I spoke to someone at work and he thought it was that, never mind tho I will give API a bell,
there was a really helpful guy I spoke to at API when I got the rebuild but I cant remember his name, any ideas?
thanks

David probably at API.
Glad the problem was found.
