When starting from cold car sounds very lumpy and on tick-over sounds very deisel like. Once car has warmed up noise quietens. There is no loss of power and the car seems to run as should do.:Susp:

Took to my local garage who kindly looked at it for me. They were pretty certain that the problem relates to the up-pipe as after inspecting the rest of the system(all standard) there wasnt any obvious faults. The noise seemed to be comming from that area also.:2ponder: Because they don't specialise in scoobs they recommended i go to someone who could diagnose with more certanty and that has led me to yourself!!

I had a similar senario when i had a fiat coupe turbo. That turned out to be a split in one of the manifold branches(common with those) the noise stopped when the car warmed up as the heat would expand the metal and close the split.

As fate would have it i bought a replacement manifold that has an up-pipe joined to it before i was havin any probs. I got this as i was gonna replace the whole exhaust system until my circumstances changed and i put the car up 4 sale. (see for sale thread).

Forgive me for being nieve but i understand that you work on scoobs for a living? and would be most privaliged if you could let me know when i could get yourself or someone you recommend to have a look for me. I know it's short notice but have week starting 12th feb off work so could do anytime then?

Thankyou for your advice in advance!!:)

he actually works on larger things than scoobys - and generally have more engines :p

cold deisel sounds normally point to the engines big ends. however, if its more like a tinny rattle then it could be the uppipe, or heat shields on the manifolds as they can be really bad.

Not sure where abuots you are but I'm sure if you phone on of the local (ish) Subaru specialists (in the traders forums) then they would be able to help/look for you.

Or one of the local crew ?

I work on planes for a living. Scoobs are just a hobby :)

Is it definatly "Exhaust" noise and not "Engine" noise?

It could be the up pipe as I've seen a few split.

To change it is quite a big job.
Intercooler, downpipe, turbo off and then struggle with the heat sheilds on the headers!!

I would guess Rivett autos is the closest specialist to you that I know of.
Can anyone recommend somewhere closer?

Just feels flippin excellent again:thumb: . From what i can remember my turbo noticabley kicked in around 3.5k revs and pushed all the way through. Now though it just feels so much smoother with the power being distrubuted much more evenly and picks up at lower revs too now:nod: !!!

My car was treated to a brand new block at 15k ago but the rest of it has travelled an extra 100k. So everytime i replace summin it can only get better in my eyes:norty: !!!

Took alot of advice from this site regarding manifolds and up-pipes and basically ignored it all:razz: (not really;) )!

Check out the thread i posted a couple of months back titled "exhausts" i think?! That will tell you where i sorced the parts from, The dealers were well impressed wit the kit!!

It was a manifold with flexi up-pipe attached, a rite booger to fit:mad: but hey you only do it once(HOPE:rolleyes: )
