Vehicles registered after 1 August 1992 have to have CAT tests.
so ..
1) fnid a friendly garage - not many left now due to new rules
2) stick a standard center section in , MOT it, remove it
cheers
Steve
As Steve says the MOT stations are getting tighter.
Only cars registered before K reg don't need a cat :(
I would fit a centre pipe with a cat from a UK car. Get the engine and exhaust hot and test it straight away :)

When i took my 95wrx for mot they told me if the car was registered in 94 then i could get away with out cats fitted.
Right I have looked long and hard for the answer. It's quite complicated as there are so many different vehicles and regs :rolleyes:

Basically as I understand it (which may be wrong) if your car is registered on or before 31st July 1995 and your car is not listed in thier "Emissions data book" you don't need a cat and the emissions should be:
CO = <3.5%
HC = <1200ppm (parts per million)
If they have the vehicle listed in the "Emissions data book" then it will have the specific limits layed down in there and they will carry out a Cat test :rolleyes: Not sure whether that mean you need a cat or that the emissions limit is so high that it will pass with out a cat :confused:
If your car is registered on or after 1st Aug 1995 then you have to have a Cat fitted!!!!!!
Again if you car is listed in the "Emission data book" it will be tested to the published limits.
For completeness here are the emission limits if it's not listed:
Fast Idle 2500-3000revs
CO = <0.3%
HC = <200ppm
Lambda = 0.97-1.03
Idle 450-1500revs
CO = <0.5%
Ahh........ I have found were I got the July '92 thing from :D
If you car is registered before 31st July 1992 then it is tested to the non-cat rules above :)
CO = <3.5%
HC = <1200ppm
And no Cat required :)
