All the intercooler will cool the "charge" air from the turbo better. Giving you a denser (more) air in the engine :)
To raise/adjust the boost you will still need a boost controller.

You can fit and set up a manual/mechanical boost controler yourself, you can even set up an Electronic controller yourself if you take your time :)
To get the best out of an Electronic one I would get it set up by someone who knows what they are doing, but DIY will run fine.

i've got a manual boost controller on its way. how high can i push the boost safely without causing damage to my turbo or engine. i'm currently running 0.9bar:thumb:

what year car?

safely - well, if its <96 then 1.1 is about MAX before it boost cuts.
later will go to just under 1.2ish

main thing is to get it checked, as you can never really tell .

if its a JDM, i'd probably not. UK i would :)

1.1 for sept 1994 - 1996
around 1 bar for earlier

there are other options though that are alot safer, and approx. for the price of a electronic boost controller ;)

boost controller arrived today. i've fitted it. it was one that can be inside the car but have decided to but under the bonnet as it makes a squealing noise all the time. my scoobs a 95 import and i've got the boost up to 1.1bar really does make a difference to the performance. will it be safe enough to run at this pressure.:thumb:

marginal some will run it this some won't.
I have heard a scoob det at 1bar between 4,800 and 5,200 above the sound of the engine....if you can hear it without dectcans then it's v.bad.

thanks for the advise scott but not really sure what you mean?

what Scott is saying, is that some cars will be ok and some arent even at normal boost (or even slightly elivated).

det = detonation/pinking/pre-ingnition :)
det for a sustained period = hole in piston/badly running car/new engine ;)

Next mod I would sugest a KnockLink followed by an AFR monitor (LambdaLink etc) to make sure it's running without a problem.

These:

Or instead of a Lambda Link you could use one of these:
