How do I get waste gate chatter on my standard wrx?
I love the sound?
i wouldnt bother, its real bad for your turbo. Its where you block one of the tube preventing pressure release causing the air to double back on itself through the turbo. That y u get the sound, its like when you blow on a fan. In time this will cause strain on your bairings. On the other hand it does sound pretty dam cool so If you can easily get a new turbo if thing **** up then go for it
Hey Brad......."THICK BUT!!!!!!"
It's not wastegate chatter but boost backing up against the turbo and making a noise as it goes back through the turbo the wrong way and fighting with the air coming in the other direction. the noise is made as this happens in conjunction with air disturbance cause by the turbo fan.
It's v.dangerous on the VF series turbo's as it stalls the turbo and can damage the fins.
The TD's are a bit stronger.
If you really want to try it, blank off your dumpvalve. This will stop air venting away as you lift the throttle and hence cause the turbo to make said noise.

then keep an eye on your rear mirror for a big puff of smoke lol
Not to self, do not follow Brad with out flack jacket on :haha:
If the compressor wheel lets go it will end up imbedded in the inside of your intercooler
You could try a very stiff spring in a forge dump valve. This would allow the highest pressure to vent through the DV but close or stay closed at lower pressures. Might give you the sound your after with lest risk.
I still wouldn't try it on a VF turbo though :(
I've tried it on a TD04 but not my VF
