Ian et all

Had an AP Performance front brake upgrade fitted by LGW Subaru last year... 8 grooved/vented discs, Ferodo DS2500 pads, Goodridge hose all round and DOT 5.1 fluid.

Brakes have been excellent up to about a month ago.

Now when braking gently, as the car finally comes to a stop it fells like it's rocking back and forth. High speed braking seems OK, and during gentle or hard braking there's no steering wheel judder at all.

So... I'm thinking (and hoping) the fronts are OK, but the rears are still the standard disc and pads from new, which have now covered over 32K.

What do you reckon...

1) fronts warped already
2) build up of cr*p on the front discs
2) rears fooked and causing the rocking sensation?

Thanks. J.

could be the grooves on the disks causing extra drag under light brake, coupled with a build up of pad material in the grooves.

Thanks Scott

Any easy way of cleaning out the grooves? ...wheel cleaner, good scrub and a pressure washer for example?

I think Scott has hit the nail on the head :)
Pad materal in the grooves.

Modern discs don't warp! Well not unless your racing hard on a track :D

I usually scrape the grooves out with a screwdriver and then wire brush them when the wheels are off. The brush wont damage the disc, it's much harder than the wire in the brush :)

Don't forget to do both side iof the disc!!!! ;)

there's a new radical product on the market for this....... it's called brake cleaner Doh !!!!! or white spirit and an old rag.

Does that remove old brake pad deposits?

Brake cleaner is generally just an aerosol degreasant :(

i've found it tends to desolve loose brake deposits quite well.
hardned no heated deposits ...not so sure...
