View Full Version : had afew proplems
at least once a week for about the last 4 weeks my car has been playing up
what i mean is boost/power isnt as high, knock link is more lively and AFR gauge reads lean yeasterday nearly off the scale lean on full boost, it was nearly as bad this morning but tonight a bit better in the yellows
since the last remap i have changed intercooler (bigger) and replaced a lot of pipe work for samcos also improved my air intake temps alot
could the car be drawing more air than the currant mapp can handle to the fuel map, this is were i get lost
car is also due a full major service
any pointers please
Sounds like MAF to me.
the minor changes you have made should still be under control by the ECU. It will just adjust the IDC % accordingly.
Intercooler may cause slightly more boost, but ECU should be able to control this. You would of noticed this if it didn't as it would surge at mid/high rpm and high gears.
changed the maf
its got a brand new genuine one
the AFR reading could be a red herring, if the lambda has started to fail it would be giving false results.
I can check it with a wideband if you want.....need to order a spare one first though......

wideband was what i suggested, just cant use mine at the moment (and still not sorted that plug either :p)
it sounds like something odd is happening, like sticking injector or something odd because it doesnt always do it, just sometimes (admittidly more recently)
its not on closed loop, just open when you floor it but yes lambda readings could be false as they really arent ment to read 'on boost' or at any temp.
the fact that the KL is showing something suggests its having combustion issues..
full service - so new plug (before or after issue?? whip the plugs out and check them. could be a dodgy plug / broken spark plug lead ?
Steve
Definatly a strange one :2ponder:
When did you change the MAF?
Have you checked all the pipes/hoses for splits or leaks?
I would give it a service (as it's due) and change the plugs.
If it still does it then it's time to get Steve or Scott to have a look with a wideband sensor ;)

just spoken to Simon and something sprung into my head - FUEL PUMP !
sounds like it may be that. so another thing to add to the list.
MAF was changed a week ago or so. suppose it could be that, but think (correct me if i'm wrong here) it was doing it before that Simon?
Had a similar issue on a mercedes recently where it was doing the same thing - running lean, poping, running rough etc when you floored it but smooth as normal when crusing. that was the MAF
might be worth changing it back to the old one see if it behaves.....
lots of things to try when you get time.
Steve
im taking it to work tommorow and changing the maff then
the new maf has been in 3 months steve it was 6 weeks ago we did yours!
im having a word with mark at lateral as i need to place the "fun" order with him soon
dyney need to speek to you about sorting pat out, must look at your work rota and plan it when your free so i get your expertese and
steve dont get a job yet!
i think it has got to be fuel as it all seams to be leaning in that directions
should have added that my pops and bangs had increased 10 fold
come to think of it, i can get it to pop like glens did in trafic
Don't plan it round my shifts yet as it may all be changing soon :(
have you done a diagnostic ECU check yet, this may flag MAF or Lambda or both.
