View Full Version : boost solenoid
recently my turbo has been acting really odd, thinking it was my bleed valve iv removed it and put the boost solenoid to standard. just need to verify which tube goes where. its a 3 port and iv got the top port leading to the wastegate, one of the bottome ports to the air intake (i know thats in the right place because its never been changed) and the othe port (neares the wing on the bottom) to the turbo. is this correct be I low my car up
-top port to turbo outlet
-middle port to actuator
-bottom port to air intake
rob
could someone please explain the layout a bit, other forums say something about a T on one of the hoses but i dont have one
I assume it's a Pre96 car. Only Post97 have a T-piece and also only have a 2-port solenoid.
If yours is a 3 port it should be plumbed as :
Top Port - turbo
Middle Port - Actuator
Bottom port* - Air Intake/Resonator box
*this pipe should have a small brass restrictor inserted inside, if not it will overboost/spike
iv got a pre facelift 98, my layout is now the same but the restrictor is (and was origionaly when bought) on the top port hose. i take it having it the may be a bad thing?
if you have a 3-port on a 98 then thats not standard
3-ports where only fitted my owners to post 97 cars to improve boost control. Normally when mapping above 1.2bar.
The only cars with 3-ports as standard are MY93-96
Boost will not be under full control with a 3-port on any other car unless mapped for it.
A 2-port solenoid on 1997> cars should be plumbed :
Turbo to T-piece (with brass restrictor inside)
T-Piece to Actuator
T-Piece to Boost Control Solenoid Top Port
Boost Control Solenid Bottom Port to Inlet Manifold
so on a 3 port the t is not needed
