Just wondering if anybody know's a way of increasing the way that the Crank case breaths, as it would appear that my scooby as blown a main crank case oil seal. looking back over the history of the car (i've only owned it for just over 1 month), it seems to have been replaced in April of this year.
I'm assuming there's 2 options to doing this
1/ Catch tank
2/ Venting it to the atmosphere.
What would you guys recommend
All help appreciated

Cheers Matt
I was informed on purchasing the car that the engine had been rebuilt, due to failure of the original oil pump, which in turn took out the bottom end (ouch!). The guy mentioned that he had fitted during the engine rebuild an uprated oil pump?, hence why i think it is now producing to much pressure within the engine (if this is true).
I'm not to clued up on the breathing system of this car. It may be a case that there may be a valve within the breathing system thats not opening (must purchase a manual ), when pressure is building quickly, as the car tends to loose less (oil) when driven sedately rather than full on.
Oh well, I will have to scratch my head tomorrow luchtime, and trace the plumbing work ;)

Gary,
Firstly is the oil over full?
Once the seal is out check it carrfully for nicks and grazes (the smallest cut can allow it to leak or pop out.
Is the metal (oil pump) arount the groove damaged (the seals can be a real pain to get to and get out so the groove might be damaged.
Was it fitted right in the first place (could it have been leaking since April?)
I expect the oil pump will still produce std pressure. The usual "uprated" oil pump is modified/suppied by Roger Clark motorsport. They shim the pressure relief valve to stop it sticking open and allowing the pressure to plummet!! This was probably what happened to the previous owner and is a know fault although I wouldn't say it was common.
The breather system is quite simple but the pipe runs under the inlet manifold so can be quite hard to follow.
There are breather take offs on top of both cam covers (little black box about 1"x2") These are the Can breathers.
The Crank breather is just left of centre under the inlet manifold. (you may have to take the intercooler off to be able to get in to see it!!)
Basicaly they all connect to the inlet pipe after the airbox/MAF sensor but before the turbo.
I have vented all mine to a catch can with a filter on top and plugged the hoses on the inlet pipe :)
If you need pics or more info let me know ;)

Cheer's for all the help guys.
The oil isn't over filled, and all the bits used for the rebuild (including oil pump) were supplied by RGM.
Oh well, I will check to make sure that none of the hoses are blocked and then take it from there.
Dyney, if you can post a piccie of where you have placed your catch tank that would be most helpfull.
Cheers
PS. How do you use a image as your signature, as i can't suss this board out :norty:

The catch tank is mounted behind the drivers side headlight (with the clear tube going to it) :)
