Not being that technically minded when it comes to cars (put a pile of PC bits in front of me and i'm happy) i'm not too sure which oil to use to top up my engine.
Looked around and there seems to be many answers to this, about the only thing the answers agree on is that it should be fully synthetic.
Any advise on what i should use?

would let john and/or stuart do the service and lask them to get you a tin of oil for topping up, at least that way you will be using what they use for the service.

Don't beleive the hype...Semi-Synth is fine and what Subaru use.
I think they use Castrol Magnetec 10W/40.
As long as you change it regular (I do mine every 6 months/4,000 miles) and don't track it every weekend, it'll be fine.
Some of the Fully Synth is far to thin and IMHO probably why so many big ends get trashed. Just because it's expensive and has a racing car on the label doesn't mean it's any good ;)
I used Mobil 1 Motorsport (the slightly thicker one i.e not 0W/40) and the tappets clattered first thing in the morning.
I drained it out a week later and put Castol Magnetec 5W/30 (I think) and it was nice and quiet.
