Nieghbour has just brought a new car and is having a few problems with it, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Car is a 95 wrx and has recently had TD05 (so i`m told) fitted along with a complete de-cat exhaust system. Car now suffers from hesitation at around 2-2500rpms and hits a wall at 4000ish rpms. Car has a boost controller, but he says it has to be turned right down for the car to run any sense.

Any ideas/suggestions greatly received.

TD05 is standard on the 95 WRX (if my memory is serving me correctly)

What level of boost is he trying to run?

What type of boost controller is it?

Might be worth using a bit of fuel pipe and connecting the compressor outlet to the actuator. So the turbo will only run at actuator pressure (about 0.7 bar) This should eliminate any boost problems.
If it all runs fine then it's the controller at fault :)

sounds like boost control issues, such as not spooling properly (sluggish) then spooling and not being able to controll it and hitting fuel cut @ 4000rpm.

try as Iain suggests...then if thats ok, clean the boost solenoid & pipes out with brake type cleaner.

Check the 'boost controller' settings .... is it a manual on ? or electronic ?

lots of things to check, but more info needed...

cheers
Steve

thanks for the replies, will tell him what dyney suggested, will ask him for more details when I see him next, only thing is, the car went out on Saturday and has not come back since! last thing I was told was that he intended to get another ecu fitted and possibly mapped. Not 100% sure I get told the whole story with whats been or being done with the car, but will let you know anymore details that I can get.

Also worth checkin if it's using the standard boost control solenoid.
If it is then check that the restrictor is still in place. this can be found in the bottom hose that returns the air back to the air intake expansion box.

It's a common easy mod to remove this little brass restrictor to get more boost, but once a decat is fitted it causes too much boost and fuel cut kicks in and your head hits the winderscreen.

As mentioned TD05 is standard on a WRX Saloon, but be careful if running more the 14/15psi on that ECU map as the ignition correction map is fairly aggressive and the is a bit of a hot spot at 5,000rpm.
